My lack of ability to sleep due to a cold has given me the chance to work through an idea I’ve been brewing. Giving anyone – everyone their own presence on the internet. Why? The answer is simple – the internet is a community of interconnected – no, not networks – but people. People and their personalities are what make the internet useful, interesting and of value. What people do and say is a thread in the tapestry of this planet’s occupants. When we add our presence to this tapestry and share what makes us unique we hopefully provide an increase in understanding, tolerance and ability for others. Overall, I think this is the driving force I have behind sharing this blog with the world, as well as to develop some kind of lasting legacy.
This brings me to my idea – what would it take for you to add to the tapestry of humanity? Will you share what makes you unique to benefit another? Can I help you do so?
There are a couple of simple and inexpensive ways to start. A person may decide to one, a few or all of them. In any case their effort, and costs are much less than you may think. I would offer myself to help you with any one of those you choose and do the work or setting it up for you.
1) Make a name for yourself. The first place is decide your name – a handle of sorts. For me I have created my identity as simply email@example.com. You could choose firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com. If it is not already used by someone else your @something.com can be anything you want.
2) Do something – after you make a name for yourself – do something. At first this may be something as small as keeping track of your appointments, or showing your kids the picture or something you thought interesting.
3) Share something – you are interesting to at least someone else. Likely what you do or could share would be interesting to more that one. When you share, you just spun your thread into humanity. An ancient Chinese proverb said something along the lines if you want to be remembered – plant a tree. In an updated form we can say now – if you want to benefit the world – weave yourself into the world.
